After more than three years closed following Hurricane María, El Conquistador Resort — now owned by Royale Blue Hospitality Group — reopened with a ribbon-cutting attended by Governor Pedro Pierluisi. In this first phase the resort offers 230 of its roughly 700 rooms, all partially remodeled with Atlantic Ocean views; reconstruction, a private investment of around $220 million, was slated to continue through the end of 2022.

Royale Blue president Ángel Antonio Fullana framed the reopening as a new resurgence for the island and a draw for conventions, citing the resort’s 100,000+ sq ft of event space. The phase included the Coquí Water Park, free parking and new dining options (Las Brisas Courtyard Café, El Cafecito with 100% Puerto Rican coffee, Splash Bar, Oasis Bar and Grill, and Café Bella Vista), with the Palomino Island facilities targeted for mid-July and full COVID-19 protocols in effect. General manager Robert Holsten and the governor both welcomed the milestone.
