On March 15, 2022, owners, operators, developers and investors interested in shaping the future of Puerto Rico gathered for the “Puerto Rico Symposium,” organized by the Puerto Rico Builders Association and the Urban Land Institute, Southeast Florida/Caribbean Chapter. During the event, held in Miami, attendees explored how the public and private sectors can work together to reinvent, revitalize and rebuild Puerto Rico, with a special focus on hospitality, housing, manufacturing and infrastructure. Highlights included new financing solutions and success stories in Puerto Rico’s development.

“This symposium represents a great opportunity to once again showcase the capacity of our people and our industries to do business, and it demonstrates the extraordinary platform that Puerto Rico is for developing new businesses or carrying out expansion plans,” emphasized Arch. Vanessa de Mari, president of the ACPR. De Mari, along with other ACPR members, shared and discussed industry issues with several government executives, including Governor Pedro Pierluisi, who addressed attendees promoting Puerto Rico’s economic development and the growing economic activity between Florida and the island; Hon. William Rodríguez, secretary of the Puerto Rico Housing Department; Maretzie Díaz Sánchez, deputy secretary of Disaster Recovery – CDBG-DR / CDBG-MIT Program; and Manuel Laboy, executive director of the Central Office for Recovery, Reconstruction and Resiliency (COR3).

At the event, De Mari was also recognized by Scott MacLaren, president of the ULI Southeast Florida/Caribbean Chapter, for her performance at the ACPR and for her election as the first woman to hold the Association’s presidency in 70 years.

In recent weeks, the secretary of the Department of Economic Development and Commerce, Manuel Cidre, and his team met with the Board of Directors. The meeting addressed several issues affecting construction, such as permits, incentives and Act 169.

Association representatives also took part in a roundtable convened by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rafael “Tatito” Hernández, with associations and private-sector representatives, to address topics of concern to these organizations and to continue driving Puerto Rico’s economic development.
